Hacking Barracuda Spyware Firewall

April 8th, 2009 | Categories: Hardware, Software | Tags: , , , ,

This is not an article on how to hack into this unit remotely. This will probably void any warranty, or contracts that you hold with Barracuda. The unit I worked on was dead, not physically, but the software on the drive was shot, even the recovery partition loaded from Barracuda would not boot correctly.
Barracuda Spyware Firewall

Unit: Barracuda Spyware Firewall 210
Hack Type: BIOS Password

Results: Success
Password: 322232 (If that does not work try, 000100 or 32020000 or 3321)

Hope it helps others attempting this.

After Hack: I have successfully installed Archlinux on this 1U server. I do not like the fact of having two Ethernet ports on the front of the server, and one in the back. But I will only use the rear port anyway.

Ethernet Front: eth0 and eth1
Ethernet Rear: eth2

Thanks. I have an old barracuda 300 that’s been retired, but the hardwre is still semi useful… (Sempron 3000, 512Mb RAM, but I can drop in more ram) I figured would be good to mess with. 32232 worked as the BIOS pw on this box too.

I believe it’s Delete on some of these. Dell and some others like to change the standard people have been using for ages. F-keys serve other purposes.

Are there anymore backside passwords that exist? I’ve Googled around and tried the ones listed above and they don’t work. Removing the CMOS battery over the weekend or moving the CMOS jumper doesn’t clear it out either. I’m only having issues with Barracuda Load Balancer 340’s with MSI MS7312 motherboards (red motherboards) running a Phoenix – Award V1.2B1 BIOS. The Barracuda’s with k8m8msr2-b motherboards (green motherboards) work with the 322232 password.

Sorry, not really sure. Search around google for a bios dump utility and some of them can scan for passwords. As long as you can boot it from a floppy or other device that the bios dump utility can run from. Some provide a ISO for CD booting, others provide instructions for USB drive booting and all that, or if you have access to run programs from the local OS running, that works too.
