Quiet day until
Well it was a quiet Friday, last Friday. Until one of the programmers decided that they were going to run a database index rebuild in the middle of the afternoon, on the production server, while everyone is working.
You see where this is headed right? Floods of calls, hung up sessions, and records locked everywhere.
Why, oh why, do people not use that brain of theirs? Why would anyone ever run a database index rebuild in the middle of the day!
He didn’t tell anyone, just started running it. While I’m stuck answering calls for it. Fuck!
Well turns out that I had to kill the database process running the rebuild and then bring down all of the databases linked to the one being rebuilt. Killing all connected users sessions made my day, I like killing sessions.
